In Slocum's Wake Yacht Training is now able to offer Navathome online RYA theory courses for Dayskipper, Coastal Skipper/YM Offshore and Yachtmaster Oceans.
The course is delivered online by Navathome while Chris Connor from ISW acts as your instructor.
This is a great option for those busy professionals that cannot take five days off to attend a concentrated course or for those of us that like to work at their own pace.
If you are interested in taking the course online please contact us for further details.
This course was successfully delivered with two candidates obtaining Yachtmaster qualifications. One candidate has gone on to obtain employment in the yachting industry on large sailing yachts.
In Slocum’s Wake Training is offering the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore shore based theory course during the Fall of 2014 at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron starting on 10 September 2014.
Anyone interested in obtaining the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore or Oceans certificate of competency should consider completing this course prior to attempting the five day on-the-water preparation course and practical on-the-water examination.
Over one half of the worlds superyachts are registered in a country belonging to the Red Ensign Group. Many of the Masters, officers and crews in these yachts commenced their careers in this sector by obtaining RYA commercial certification.
On 29 and 30 March 2014, I had the pleasure of examining four young gentlemen in Fort Lauderdale for Maritime Professional Training. They are all currently employed on super yachts and are hoping to improve their employment opportunities and career prospects
A requirement of RYA to offer courses sail or power is that the training centre must have a suitable training vessel available which has been inspected by an RYA inspector from the UK. At this time, In Slocum's Wake does not have a suitable power vessel.
We are still searching for a vessel to charter so that we can offer the full range of power courses and hope to have a boat in place for 2014. Any news will be relayed through the website as it becomes available.
Remember: the shorebased theory courses are common to both the sail and power scheme. So, if you are looking to increase your knowledge - do not hesitate to consider doing the theory courses here at In Slocum's Wake Sailing.
It is a fact of life in Eastern Canada that our on the water sailing season is short. Only the very hardy and the professionals sail into the winter months in Halifax. However, this short hiatus gives us the opportunity to do maintenance and offer theoretical instruction in preparation for the next sailing season. S/V Coronation was put on the hard in late November and is presently covered and waiting for the sun in April.
After eight days Coronation is safely arrived from Annapolis, Maryland.
Dolphins are always welcome at sea. During the voyage however we ended up being escorted by several hundred at one time for a short period.
