RYA Practical Courses - Sailing

All practical courses depart from the premises of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron (RNSYS) on Monday morning. We can offer all RYA sailing practical courses including Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore Prep and mileage building during the sailing season from May through to Early October depending on demand and schedule.

Courses:

Day Skipper Practical Course
The Day Skipper course is taught onboard Coronation. You will learn pilotage, navigation, seamanship, and boat handling up to the standard required to skipper a small cruising yacht safely by day in waters in which you are familiar. Duration is five days. Minimum age - 16.

Coastal Skipper Practical Course
The aim of the course is to teach the skills and techniques required to skipper a cruising yacht of 7 to 15 metres safely on coastal and offshore passages by day and night. Duration is five days. Minimum age - 17

  • Courses are scheduled according to demand and may be run as a combined Day Skipper and Competent Crew or Coastal Skipper and Competent Crew courses.

International Certificate of Competency & CEVNI Exams
In Slocum's Wake is also authorized to assess for the International Certificate of Competency and CEVNI exams which are required to operate small non-commercial vessels in some foreign charter destinations such as Europe, the Mediterranean, etc. (more information). The cost for the ICC assessment is CAD$1200 plus 15% HST and includes enrolment in the Navathome ICC course and assessment in Coronation.

The ICC practical assessment is one day in length. Completion of the online ICC course is accepted as evidence of theoretical knowledge required for theICC assessment. Candidates are required to complete the ICC online theory course delivered by Navathome via In Slocum's Wake prior to attempting the assessment. Contact us for further details.
